Rain, dust and everything in between: mastering IP ratings

What are IP ratings? IP (Ingress Protection) indicates the level of protection electrical equipment has against solids (such as dust) and liquids (such as water). The rating is specified according to the IEC 60529 standard and written as IPXY, where X = protection against solids (0–6) and Y = protection against water (0–9). The K suffix (as in IP69K) is defined in ISO 20653 and indicates protection against high-pressure jets of hot water. Whether you are selecting industrial motors or actuators for your system, the right IP rating ensures reliable performance, longer service life and compliance with safety standards – especially in harsh or sensitive environments.
